Heritage Brands – Brook Taverner

Every era has its popular looks and brands, many of which come and go in the blink of an eye. Other brands have stayed the course, often because they have a timeless appeal and have a learnt a thing or two about the right cuts and fabrics over the years. There is no substitute for experience when it comes to tailoring and so it is no surprise that a company like Brook Taverner continue to retain a loyal customer base having traded for over a century.

What’s In a Name?

It should be noted that many brands are given names to establish a certain image but these often have nothing to do with the people who actually started the company. Take Ted Baker, for instance which was the brainchild of a gentlemen called Ray Kelvin! Brook Taverner was founded by Frank Brook and Walter Taverner which is somehow reassuring. There really was a Brook and a Taverner behind the brand!

Beginning with Buttons

The company started in 1912 when Brook and Taverner travelled to Calcutta to sell buttons. Linings and cloth were later introduced to their range and it was the cloth which really helped to move the business forward. They eventually built up one Britain’s largest fabric ranges for men and sold their wares to tailors across Britain.

Moving Forward

By the sixties some of Brook Taverners market had begun to disappear as many traditional tailors closed down. Off the peg garments were becoming more prevalent reducing the amount of work available for the nation’s tailors. Young people were investing in the latest looks and trends and casual wear was becoming more common. Brook Taverner took the decision to offer a cut, make and trim service and this later evolved into a ready to wear range being introduced. This range continues to this day and is based on the principles of quality, service and price. Fashions come and go but there is always a place for classic tailoring.

Timeless Classics for Men

Brook Taverner pride themselves on great craftsmanship and attention to detail. No corners are cut in production and the years of expertise really show in the wonderful cuts and the fabulous fits of the garments.

Brook Taverner fashion suits, jackets and trousers for those who treasure traditional English qualities and classic styling. Only the very best fabrics are used and those classic styles are given a contemporary twist in many cases to keep the looks timeless but still current. The brand experiences an exceptional level of customer loyalty which is a rare thing in this day and age.

Brook Taverner is a brand which has moved with the times and yet has remained to true to its core values. Perhaps this is the perfect blend when it comes to clothing and there is something reassuring about heritage labels. You know what you are going to get and there are no nasty surprises. When that reassurance comes with a reasonable price tag then you are on to a winner.
